From the Founder

My journey into creating all-natural skincare and empowering shea women wasn’t just about starting a business, it was a mission written by God long before I even knew it.

Growing up in a low-income family, my parents’ biggest wish was for their children to be healthy. But for me, that wasn’t the case. From childhood, I battled Rheumatoid arthritis, and my mother, in her desperate attempt to shield my late sister and me from painful episodes, would bathe us in scalding hot water. What started as her way of easing our pain turned into a habit I carried into adulthood, comforting in the moment, but leaving my skin unbearably dry.

Yet, despite my struggles, I found joy in making others happy, even our furry friends. My nickname was “animal friend” because no matter how small my meal was, I always shared it with the animals around me. I guess generosity was just in my nature.

But my biggest heartbreak came when I became a mother myself and watched my own child suffer from eczema. Seeing my baby in pain shattered me. Then, my mom introduced me to shea butter. At first, I didn’t think much of it, just another cream, right? But to my surprise, it quickly became my household favorite. My once flaky dry skin began to feel nourished, and more importantly, it soothed and healed my daughter’s eczema. Fast forward to today, what started as a personal discovery turned into a calling, turned into a brand that not only creates natural body butters and oils for dry skin and eczema but also stands as a voice for fair treatment and wages for the hardworking shea women. And that’s when it hit me—like a lightbulb moment. God had been preparing me for this all along. I actually laughed when I realized it! My pain, my compassion, my child’s struggles, it was never random. It was all leading me to a greater purpose.

Left to my own understanding, I never would have imagined that all these life experiences would lead me here—to creating products that not only bring healing but also uplift the incredible women behind shea butter production.

Butterlorette was never just about skincare. It’s about loving your skin, It’s about purpose. And here I am, walking in faith, pouring my heart into every creation, sharing it with you so you, too, can feel confident in your skin, while making a real difference in shea communities. One jar at a time.

OUR STORY

Once upon a time in a small town nestled within the lush lands of West Africa “Ghana”, a young lady named Sarah carried a heart brimming with compassion. Her own humble beginnings had etched into her soul the struggles of poverty, a memory she held close. Life's journey had brought her to the United States, where she found stability alongside her loving husband. Yet, amidst her newfound comfort, she never forgot the people she had left behind, the ones still enduring harsh conditions back in Ghana.

                     Answering The Call
One day, Sarah felt an insistent inner calling, a compelling voice urging her to reach out to a friend on a quest to further extend a helping hand to those in need, despite the countless lives she and her husband had already touched in their homeland. Seeking to broaden their impact. This conversation led her to a friend from Tamale, who shared stories about the lives of the remarkable shea women who toiled under the unforgiving sun, harvesting shea nuts and creating precious butter for generations living in the clutches of abject poverty.

Sarah, a cosmetologist by trade, was passionate about the purity of nature, especially when it came to skincare. Her journey as a mother to a child with eczema had taught her the soothing properties of golden richness in shea butter. It was a natural wonder that had provided relief to her baby's delicate skin.

                    The dedication
She did her own research and to her dismayed, she uncovered a heartbreaking truth that the very women who crafted this remarkable natural treasure were living in dire circumstances because middlemen profited disproportionately from the labor of these incredible Shea women, leaving them with meager resources to support their families. Sarah told her husband what she has learnt.
Motivated by her shared Ghanaian heritage and a profound desire to give back, she embarked on an inspiring journey. With a clear vision to end the exploitation and uplift the shea women in Ghana, she reached out to the community through her friend, eager to understand their challenges and aspirations firsthand.
Sarah then traveled back to Ghana and met  these shea women in person, upon her arrival she witnessed the leaders of these Shea communities prioritizing personal gain over the welfare of their struggling community members perpetuating impoverishment. Parents couldn't afford two square meals a day, children dreamt of education beyond their reach, and those in need of medical care suffered silently, this struck a chord within Sarah. Driven by her love for empowerment, she embarked on a mission to make a difference.

                    The Birth Of Butterlorette
And thus, Butterlorette was born, not just a brand, but a movement that stood unwavering in its opposition to self-serving leaders in local communities, challenging the status quo, focused on fair trade practices, equitable compensation, quality healthcare and education, better standard of living, providing access to resources that enhanced the women's shea butter production and a platform linking these empowered shea producers with international markets, facilitating the distribution of their ethically produced shea butter to reach global consumers who prioritize ethical sourcing.

The Journey To Empowerment
Butterlorette wasn't just Sarah's mission. It resonated deeply with fellow visionaries both young men and women, educated minds who understood the systemic issues plaguing their country. Jobs cheated them, communities languished in poverty, and this was something they could not ignore, together they were determined to create a ripple effect, one that would extend beyond just a village and transform the broader shea communities.
Our premium, unrefined triple-filtered shea butter isn’t just a jar of nourishing power of nature. It’s a symbol of empowerment, dignity, and hope. It represents a future where our shea communities thrive without exploitation, where support are extended to those in need, and where quality healthcare and education are accessible to all. Sarah's journey was not without its trials, but was fueled by a fire that could not be extinguished. She was not just crafting a movement; but a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, a reminder that one person's compassion and determination driven by a vision, can spark a revolution of positive change that would touch countless lives.. It's a promise to the world that a future, bright and equitable, is not just possible but within our grasp.
She invite you to join her on this remarkable journey, to be part of a story that transcends borders and makes a real difference in the lives of women and communities across West Africa. Together, we can empower, uplift, and thrive.
